President of Ingushetia sets up commission for operative reaction to human rights violations

Ingushetia is creating an ad hoc commission under the President for operative reaction to human rights violations. It will include representatives of both the authorities and broad public. This was stated by Yunus-Bek Evkurov, new President of Ingushetia, on November 25, during his meeting with members of public organizations of the republic.

Mr Evkurov has promised to form a public board under the President to engage members of local NGOs and clergy. Later this board will grow into the Republic's Public Chamber.

According to Evkurov, special operations will be held only with participation of Ingushetian power agencies, and clergymen will take part in negotiations.

At a meeting, human rights activists raised the issue of settling the consequences of the 1992 Ossetian-Ingush conflict. The President has confirmed his intention to strive for return of forced migrants to the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia, first of all - to their own houses with subsequent ensuring of their safety and establishment of joint small enterprises for creation of new jobs.

In the near future, Yunus-Bek Evkurov plans to hold a separate meeting on the issue with forced migrants and NGOs, engaged in defence of the rights of forced migrants. A special ad hoc commission or committee set up by him for the purpose in the near future will address all these issues.
