Georgia accepts five out of six points of Medvedev's resolution

President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili is ready to accept five out of six ceasefire conditions in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone and to sign the document coordinated on August 12 by Russian and French leaders.

It was reported earlier that Presidents of Russia and France Dmitri Medvedev and Nicolas Sarkozy adopted a joint statement in Moscow, which identifies six principles of settling the Georgian-Ossetian conflict and calls the parties to refrain from using force.

"We have agreed the text of the document with president Saakashvili and made some corrections," said President of France Nicolas Sarkozy in a briefing in Tbilisi after his talks with Saakashvili, as the "Interfax" reports.

As he said, "already on Wednesday, the text of the document will be brought to the meeting of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of all 27 EU member-states; after they express their consent, the document will acquire the legal force of a resolution," the French President added.

He has reported that because of Georgia's disagreement with one of the points in the resolution, "the changes made in the text refer, in particular, withdrawal from the text of the phrase about international discussion of the future political status of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and the accent on international negotiations with the aim to ensure stability and safety in these regions of Georgia."

Let us remind you that Medvedev and Sarkozy had reported about their support of six principles for settling conflicts and call the interested parties to undersign these principles.

"Point one: not to resort to use of force. Point two: to finally stop all the warfare. Point three: to ensure free access to humanitarian aid. Point four: to return the armed forces of Georgia to places of their permanent deployment. Point five: to bring the armed forces of Russia back to the disposition prior to the operation. The Russian peacekeepers shall take additional safety measures until the trust between the parties in the conflict is restored. Point six: to start international discussion of the issues of the future status of South Ossetia and Abkhazia and the ways to ensure their durable safety," the "Gazeta.Ru" quotes President Medvedev as saying.
