Prosecutor's Office investigates disorders in Rostov Colony

On June 18, a group of inmates of the general custody No. 10 made a fight with the sentries. There are injured persons among the colony officers and the inmates, several persons were hospitalized with grave traumas.

To investigate into the reasons of disorders in the corrective establishment, the Rostov Regional Prosecutor's Office has set up an inquiry group. A large group of investigators is now in the colony territory interrogating the inmates. According to preliminary data, seven prisoners were the main instigators. The investigation has a video record of the incident.

According to Vladimir Khizhnyak, head of the Chief Department of the Russian Federal Corrective Service for the Rostov Region, 18 employees of the colony were wounded, 8 of them are in hospital, and two have serious wounds. One inmate also suffered. Besides, 10 inmates kept in the strict custody section (for malicious offences) cut themselves with their shaving razors as a solidarity act. The cuts were insignificant, and all of them refused to go to hospital.

After the situation was normalized, the prosecutors opened a session of individual reception. According to colony administration, there were no serious complaints on the part of the inmates on the custody conditions or administration's actions.
