Armenia holds protest actions in support of arrested oppositionists

On April 14, a protest action organized by the wives and relatives of the arrested activists of opposition was held near the building of the representative office of the Council of Europe in Yerevan. The participants of the action were holding slogans calling to liberation of political prisoners.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that on April 14 residents of the village of Tsovakap, Shirak Region, from where activists of opposition Musheg and Shota Sagatelyans come, also started their protest actions in support of the arrested fellows villager. The inhabitants of Tsovakap managed to gather almost 200 signatures with a demand to free nine activists - residents of the Shirak Region.

One of these days, 62 participants of the Karabakh war from the Shirak Region have disseminated a statement in which they express their concern with the arrest of their comrades-in-arms: Ashot Zakaryan, Musheg Sagatelyan, Arutyun Urutyan, Gevork Kazaryan and others.

"We express our deep disappointment and regret that the people who shed blood for independence and victory in the Karabakh war were exposed to various sorts of prosecution and now are in prison. The responsibility for unprecedented politically-motivated persecutions is completely on the authorities of Armenia," runs the statement of the war veterans.
