Commission from Dagestan visits Khankala military unit

The commission set up to investigate complaints of the soldiers from Dagestan who take their contractual army service in Khankala has visited the military unit and met its commanders.

The commander of the military unit General-Major Sergey Minenkov has denied the information that dismissals of soldiers are of selective character and are made depending on nationalities.

"In total, during 2007, 3500 soldier and officers were excluded from the staff of the unit, including a part of them - by the outcomes of the annual attestation; among them, there are natives of the Republic Dagestan," General Minenkov said.

At the same time, the command of the military unit, having noted high skills of Dagestan servicemen, has noted that certain representatives of this nation admit violations of the established rules of service, namely, they refuse to study the Charters of the Armed Forces of Russia, use various pretexts to escape their service and voluntarily leave their regiments.

During the meeting, the issue was settled to restore the contract soldier Makhmudov who was dismissed for breaking his contract provisions, and an agreement was reached to revise personal files and dismissal reasons of those Dagestan soldiers who were on the list presented by the Committee of Soldiers' Mothers of the Republic of Dagestan.

"An interrogation was also conducted among the soldiers present in the hostel on the topic of violations of their rights, and no complaints were expressed," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Timur Gusaev, leading expert of the Department of Legal Education of the Office of the Ombudsman in the Republic Dagestan.
