FSB reports detention of foreigner in Kuban in connection with terrorist attack

A citizen of one of the Central Asian countries has been detained in Krasnodar Krai. The FSB claims that he was preparing to set fire to a dormitory at an oil refinery on orders from an international terrorist organization.

Employees of the FSB Directorate for Krasnodar Krai have detained a foreign citizen who is suspected of preparing a terrorist act, Kommersant reported today, citing the agency.

According to investigators, a citizen of one of the Central Asian countries, who got a job as a concrete worker at an oil refinery, was preparing to set fire to a dormitory at the refinery with incendiary mixtures on orders from an international terrorist organization. The report claims that the man intended to film the fire and post the video online, and then go to Afghanistan to join an international terrorist organization.

The foreigner was detained at his place of residence in a dormitory; Molotov cocktails were found in the room during a search. The detainee admitted his guilt and told the operatives details of his plans. A criminal case has been opened under articles on attempted terrorist attack (Part 1 of Article 30, Part 1 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization (Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
