Sentence of Volzhsky water park director in teenager's death case reduced

The court granted the request of the director of the water park in Volzhsky, Grigory Gazaryan, convicted in the case of the death of a teenager, and replaced his remaining prison term with correctional labor.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, in August 2024, the Volgograd Regional Court reviewed the sentence handed down on April 9 in the case of the death of a teenager in the Volzhsky water park. The director of the water complex Grigory Gazaryan had his sentence reduced by two months, taking into account the compensation for damages under claims in the amount exceeding 2.5 million rubles. At the same time, the court imposed an additional punishment on him, banning him for two years from operating attractions and providing physical education and sports services.

On July 17, the Dzerzhinsky District Court of Volgograd granted Grigory Gazaryan's petition to replace the unserved term with a more lenient punishment, V1.ru reports.

"At the time of filing the petition, he had seven months and nine days left to spend in the colony. The court granted his petition to replace the unserved term with correctional labor. The petition was granted, but the court's decision can be appealed," the publication quotes a court representative as saying.

Earlier The lawyers of the convicted appealed the verdict in the 4th Cassation Court of Krasnodar. The court did not satisfy the appeals of Danil Galayda, Alexey Zakharov, Ruslan Makulov and Pavel Samborsky, the publication writes.

Recall that in June 2022, a family with a 13-year-old boy came from Astrakhan to Volzhsky to spend their leisure time in a water park. There, the teenager slid down one of the slides and drowned. The boy spent more than six minutes in the water, but neither the rescuers nor other employees of the water park saw the drowning child.

Investigators assumed that the rescuers did not have the necessary skills and education, and the surveillance operator was distracted by his mobile phone and saw the teenager when he had already drowned. The executive director of the water park, who was supposed to organize the work of the rescuers and the operator, was also detained.
