Meeting in defence of human rights to be held in Azerbaijan

On December 10, a meeting will be held in Azerbaijan dedicated to defence of human rights, which is called to be a response to the attempts to restrict the freedom of speech and human rights.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by political scientist Eldar Namazov, chairman of the organizing committee of the meeting. According to his story, a decision was made to send a notification about the meeting to Baku's Mayoralty and to declare, as on November 10, a month of human rights with holding seminars, publications and photo exhibitions. The organizing committee has instituted prizes for best posters, slogans for the meeting and articles on the problems of human rights.

Besides, on December 8-9, an international conference on human rights will be held in Baku. Mr Namazov has noted that the key issue of the month-long action and the meeting will be the problem of the freedom of speech. "The authorities are attacking the press because it covers the burning problems. Any attempts to restrict the freedom of speech are the roughest violations of human rights," he said.

Eldar Namazov has noted that the reaction of various public organizations evidences that the meeting will be a powerful answer to the attempts to restrict the freedom of speech and human rights in Azerbaijan.
