New fund created in Georgia to pay protesters’ fines

A "Freedom Fund" with a bank account in England has been set up by David Djincharadze, a member of the “Freedom Square” Movement. In his opinion, this will help to avoid arrest of the funds raised to pay fines imposed on participants in pro-European protests.

Georgian authorities are trying to suppress protests in the country in various ways; and the arrest of accounts of the funds that helped pay fines imposed on the detainees is one of these ways, Georgian analysts have noted. They are confident that other options will be found to help in paying fines.

The above "Freedom Fund" will have a bank account in England. The Fund was launched by David Djincharadze, a member of the “Freedom Square” Movement, the “JamNews” outlet has reported today.

"It is obvious that the arrest of the funds registered in Georgia and the haste [of the authorities] mean that we need to be proactive and do everything possible to remove Ivanishvili. That is why I believe that we need to create several decentralized funds with foreign accounts and online payment systems that will be impossible to block. Today, I am creating the "Freedom Fund", which is open to donations, especially from emigrants and citizens of foreign countries. After fundraising, the fund will help citizens pay the fines that have been appealed against. This fund cannot be arrested, since the bank account will be in England," the “JamNews” quotes Mr Djincharadze as saying.

According to his story, he intends to gather a group of volunteers, mobilize funds and develop an online system that will help transparently register all the expenses and donations.
