Court finds ban for rights defender to see Nagavkin as lawful

The refusal to allow Valentin Bogdan, a human rights defender, to visit Igor Nagavkin in the colony was found to be lawful. The court has ignored the arguments presented by the human rights defender.

The boss of the Uryupinsk colony did not allow Valentin Bogdan, who is defending his colleague, to see Nagavkin. Valentin has treated the boss’ actions as illegal and appealed to the court.

Igor Nagavkin is serving hid two-year prison term in the colony for disrupting the work of the SIZO (pre-trial prison). Since November 2024, he has been placed into the dungeon (punishment cell) indefinitely. Only once, before the court hearing on January 9, he was let out of the dungeon for just one day. Earlier, he went on a hunger strike in protest against the penalties imposed on him, as he believes, illegally.

In April 2024, the Cassation Court of the Krasnodar Territory overturned the decision of the Volgograd Regional Court, which upheld Nagavkin's sentence in the theft case. The Prosecutor's Office said that Nagavkin's sentence in the theft case should be reduced and he should be released from punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
