Ingush activist Zarifa Sautieva released from colony
Zarifa Sautieva, an Ingush activist, has served her full custody term within the case of an extremist community and was released from her colony.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after a rally held in Magas, Ingush activists were accused of creating an extremist community, the members of which spoke out against the Ingush-Chechen border agreement. In December 2021, the court sentenced Akhmed Barakhoev, Musa Malsagov and Malsag Uzhakhov to nine years in jail each; Ismail Nalgiev, Bagaudin Khautiev and Barakh Chemurziev – to eight years, and Zarifa Sautieva to 7.5 years of freedom deprivation. Zarifa Sautieva served her sentence in the women's colony in the town of Zelenokumsk. This September, the colony administration placed her into the dungeon (punishment cell) for 15 days for wearing tights of the wrong colour, although she was not given any others.
On September 18, it became known that the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) found that Russian authorities had violated the article prohibiting torture and inhuman treatment in relation to Sautieva, and awarded her EUR 1000 in compensation.
"Our client Zarifa Sautieva is at home after serving her full sentence! We are waiting for the rest of them!" Kaloi Akhilgov, an advocate, wrote in his Telegram channel.
