Dagestani Mirzabekov treats compensation for his custody as insufficient
The court has awarded Zainulabidin Mirzabekov, a Makhachkala resident, with compensation in the amount of 11 million roubles for his illegal criminal prosecution and eight years he spent behind bars. Mirzabekov, who had claimed 414 million roubles, intends to appeal against the court ruling.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this September, the 44-year-old Mirzabekov stated that he had claimed compensation from the state for 12 years of his illegal criminal prosecution.
Mirzabekov was detained in 2010 and accused of selling narcotic drugs. He spent eight years in custody; and only in 2018 his custody was replaced for recognizance not to leave the place. In 2021, the court acquitted Mirzabekov.
He considers the compensation of 11 million roubles to be a "meagre amount". Mirzabekov, who has no family or children, has noted that after his release he was never able to find a job or acquire any specialty. "Who needs us, the convicts? No one is helping us," he has stated.
