Ingush residents pay tribute to memory of those who fell victim to conflict in Prigorodny District
Hundreds of people gathered at the memorial complex to the victims of repression to honour the memory of the victims of the Ossetian-Ingush conflict which occurred in the autumn of 1992.
The Ossetian-Ingush conflict took place in the autumn of 1992 in the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia and led to armed clashes. According to the information of the prosecutor’s office, 583 people were killed, 939 were wounded, and other 261 went missing. According to various estimates, from 30,000 to 60,000 Ingush people had to leave the territory of their historical residence in the Prigorodny District and Vladikavkaz. Most of the forced migrants settled in Ingushetia.
In Nazran, hundreds of people gathered at the place where plaques with the names of those killed and missing during the Ossetian-Ingush conflict were installed. Relatives, government officials, and religious figures came to pay tribute to the memory of the victims, the “Interfax” news agency reports.
As part of the mourning event, a charity event has been organized by the authorities to distribute food. Prayers for the dead are also being read at the event.
“We have no right to forget those bitter lessons of the past and must do everything so that human life always remains the main value,” stated the leader of Ingushetia as quoted by the online newspaper “Ingushetia”.
