Court denies all motions of Dagestani journalist Gadjiev’s defence
In the Moscow Region, at the first hearing in the case against Abdulmimin Gadjiev, Kemal Tambiev, and Abubakar Rizvanov, the Military Court of Appeal refused to grant the motions filed by the defence.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that being kept at a SIZO (pre-trial prison) in Novocherkassk, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), was awaiting consideration of an appeal against the verdict in his case filed back in September 2023.
In June 2019, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the “Ansar” charitable foundation, and entrepreneur Kemal Tambiev were arrested on the charge of financing terrorism. On September 12, 2023, the court sentenced Abdulmumin Gadjiev to 17 years, Abubakar Rizvanov – to 18 years, and Kemal Tambiev – to 17.5 years of imprisonment. In their final speeches, the defendants claimed that the public prosecutor did not present in court ant convincing evidence of their guilt.
On October 9, not without difficulty, Dana Sakieva, a spouse of Abdulmumin Gadjiev with four children, managed to get a permission to visit her husband at the Grozny SIZO.
Let us remind you that one of the three judges who delivered the verdict voiced a dissenting opinion, in which he criticized the grounds for the guilty verdict and in fact acquitted Abdulmumin Gadjiev.
