Relatives of “prison jamaat” case figurant state violation of his rights at Taganrog SIZO

After the hostage-taking in the Rostov SIZO (pre-trial prison), relatives lost contact with a native of Dagestan, Magomed Khanilaev, accused within the “prison jamaat” case, his wife has complained. Khanilaev was taken to the Taganrog SIZO, and its employees are refusing his meeting the advocate, a Khanilaev’s defender has complained.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 16, detainees kept at the Rostov SIZO took two its employees hostage. The rioters identified themselves as members of the "Islamic State" (IS)*; they demanded weapons and a chance to leave the SIZO. Law enforcers carried out an assault, declaring that the hostage takers were killed.

“After the hostage-taking at the SIZO-1 in Rostov and beating of many Muslims there, Khanilaev and several other people were taken out of the SIZO under the pretext of interrogation, and he never got in touch again,” wrote the author of the message sent to the SMS service of the "Caucasian Knot".

“The advocate tried to get a meeting with three times; and they gave her a receipt that Magomed allegedly refused to meet her,” Maria, Khanilaev’s wife, has noted.

She complained about the tightening of her husband's custody conditions. “He was not in the same cell with the rioters ... and had nothing to do with it. However, everyone who ended up in the Taganrog SIZO found themselves in the same harsh conditions,” Maria has added.

Victoria Koshel, an advocate, has doubted that Magomed Khanilaev had voluntarily rejected her help.
