Network users support North-Caucasian Muftis' protest against ban on wearing niqabs

The Muslims' Coordination Centre of Northern Caucasus (MCCNC) has asked the Russian President not to pass a bill banning religious clothing. The Muftis of Northern Caucasus have stated that this ban violates believers' rights. Commentators in social networks have supported the Muftis' appeal, noting that this initiative has already split the society.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Vladislav Davankov, a Vice-Speaker of the Russian State Duma, has suggested providing educational establishments with the right to ban the wearing of religious clothing, as well as giving legislative and municipal assemblies the power to impose a ban on wearing religious clothing in public places.

The above MCCNC has stated that the ban on wearing religious clothing is unacceptable and will lead to a society split, the "Islam in Northern Caucasus" Telegram channel reports.

Arguments about national security in the context of educational establishments are untenable, since there not a single terror act has been committed by Muslim women wearing hijabs, the MCCNC asserts. Instead of fighting religious clothing, Davankov should have focused his efforts on improving the education of young people and supporting the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine, the statement said.

Social network users have supported the Muftis' protest against the ban on wearing niqabs.

“Neither niqabs nor hijabs interfere with anyone; they just want to deprive Muslims of their rights,” Khabib Abdulaev has stated.
