Resident of North Ossetia achieves compensation from MIA for torture

Soslan Dzidakhanov, who was subjected to bullying by a law enforcer, has claimed one million roubles from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) as compensation for moral harm, but the court in North Ossetia reduced this amount to 200,000 roubles.

Soslan sought compensation for the violence and humiliation he had suffered from the law enforcer in December 2020. Earlier, the law enforcer was found guilty of exceeding his official powers by threatening and using violence against Dzidakhanov, but refused to plead guilty, the human rights project "Travmpunkt" (Trauma Point) has reported in its Telegram channel.

The court has established that the law enforcer, with insults and threats, pulled Dzidakhanov out of the car in the village of Kosta, grabbed him by the neck and began to choke him. He then lifted Soslan up and threw him to the ground, hitting him in the head several times and spitting in his face. Other law enforcers did not try to stop their colleague. Dzidakhanov tried to film the law enforcer, but he again lifted him up, threw him to the ground and kicked him in the head.

In July 2022, the Ardonsky District Court found the law enforcer guilty and sentenced him to four years of conditional imprisonment (probation).

Dzidakhanov disagrees with the reduced compensation and intends to appeal against the court ruling.

In December 2023, the Supreme Court (SC) of Ingushetia tightened the sentence of the former law enforcer Amiran Merzhoev, convicted of beating a detainee. He was sentenced to four years of probation, but the appeal court increased the sentence to two years in penal colony.
