Resident of Rostov Region found guilty of treason

A court in Voronezh has sentenced Alexander Shevchenko, a resident of the Rostov Region, to 24 years and four months of freedom deprivation. He tried to enter the territory of Ukraine aiming to tae part in hostilities against Russian troops there, the FSB (Russian Federal Security Service) has informed.

According to intelligence services, in September 2022, the 27-year-old Alexander Shevchenko shot a taxi driver dead, took his car and drove in it to the village of Shekalovka in the Rossoshansky District of the Voronezh Region. There he lost control of the car and was detained by law enforcers, The RBC outlet with reference to the FSB's public relations centre.

According to the FSB, Shevchenko wanted to participate in hostilities "as a member of a Ukrainian terrorist organization," and had killed the taxi driver "to demonstrate his commitment to Ukrainian ideology."

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that in April a student from Moscow was detained in the Rostov Region under suspicion of collaborating with Ukrainian special services.
