Complaint of Dagestani journalist Yusupov* about arbitrary detention reaches court

A court in Makhachkala has unreasonably refused to satisfy the claim of Idris Yusupov* against the police in connection with his detention at an anti-mobilization action; this is stated in the complaint, now considered by the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan. The spokeswoman for the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has stated that Yusupov* was not detained.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 19, 2023, the Sovietsky District Court of Makhachkala refused to consider Yusupov's* lawsuit against the local MIA for his unjustified detention in September 2022 at a rally against the mobilization that he came to professionally cover.

Shamil Isaev, an advocate, has stated that the first-instance judge had violated the right to access to justice – the advocate and Yusupov* were not allowed to attend the court session.

Samera Davydova, an officer from the MIA Department for Makhachkala, has stated that on September 26, 2022, Yusupov* was not taken to the police station and was not kept there.
