Guseynov, Mirza Davud Bagir ogly

Soviet party activist and statesman.

Born in March 1894, in Baku, in a family of a clergyman. Received high education in Baku. In 1913-1917, studied in Moscow Commerce Institute where was attracted by revolutionary ideas. After the February Revolution of 1917 in Russia, M.B. Guseynov returned to Baku where he conducted propaganda activities among youth and students and organized a youth committee. Counted his years in the Communist Party from November 1918. In 1918-1919, was a deputy chairman and then a chairman of the Bolshevik Gummet group. Later became a member of the Caucasian Regional Committee of RKP(b) (Revolutionary Communist Party of the Bolsheviks). In February 1920, was elected the chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Bolsheviks of Azerbaijan; got acquainted with Lenin in the same year. As a member of the Military Revolutionary Headquarters, participated in preparations for the armed rebellion against the Musavatist government. Upon the establishment of the Soviet power in Azerbaijan, M.B. Guseynov was deputy chairman of the Revolutionary Committee, National Commissar of Finance, and National Commissar of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan; starting 1921, was simultaneously National Commissar of Finance, National Commissar of Foreign Affairs, and deputy chairman of the National Commissar Council of ZSFSR (Transcaucasian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic). In 1930-1933, was the first secretary of the Central Committee of Communist Party of Tajikistan. Delegate of 14th (1925) and 16th (1930) congresses of VKP(b). In 1934-1937, was administrator of the Non-Russian Schooling Department of the National Commissariat for Education of RSFSR (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic).

In late 1930, M.B. Guseynov became a victim of illegal repressions: according to official data, was shot on March 21, 1938. Rehabilitated posthumously.
