Defence of Ingush activists challenges verdict in court of cassation
In their cassation appeal, advocates of convicts claimed that the court of appeal had committed serious violations when considering the case against the Ingush oppositionists and that should become the basis for cancellation of the verdict.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the Stavropol Territorial Court was considering the complaints against the verdict to seven protest leaders in Magas since January 13, 2023. Activists pointed out that the court did not take into account many facts indicating that the defendants were not guilty.
The Ingush activists were accused of creating an extremist community and participating in it.
Advocate Kaloi Akhilgov reported that the first and second instance courts had committed numerous violations. “The most important thing is that the first instance court went beyond the charges brought,” noted the advocate.
Advocate Magomed Bekov has noted that the defence will focus “on the discrepancy between the verdict and the actual circumstances of the case.” “In addition, we have pointed out gross violations of the norms of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation, namely the right to defence of Ismail Nalgiev. The court considered it possible to continue the trial in the absence of his defenders,” emphasized Magomed Bekov.
