Chechen media remind about Kadyrov's threats to militants' relatives
Relatives of those residents of Chechnya who are suspected of extremism must be held accountable along with them as accomplices, Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya, has stated. Before that, on the eve of the New Year, he expressed threats to relatives of people suspected of extremism.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 30, 2023, Kadyrov said that relatives of those suspected of extremism are responsible for their actions. Chechen authorities will get rid of critics wherever they are, he has added.
"If a family member has committed a crime, then, the perpetrator's relatives – father, brother or son – will also bear responsibility for the crime as accomplices," the "Grozny Inform" News Agency quoted Kadyrov as saying on the Instagram*.
Kadyrov also reproached human rights defenders and Ichkeria supporters, who speak out in defence of Islam, but pay no due attention to Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Earlier, human rights defenders pointed to increased persecution of Chechen authorities' critics.
*On March 21, 2022, the Tverskoi Court of Moscow banned the activities in Russia of the Meta Company, owning the Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, in connection with extremist activities.
