Victims figuring in Zhuravel's case on burning down Koran speak at trial

The act of Nikita Zhuravel, a Volgograd resident, who burned down the Koran, has offended Muslims' feelings and inflicted harm to them harm. This was stated by Imams of local mosques, who act as the suffered party in the case, considered by the Visaitovsky District Court of Grozny.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 2, the above court in Grozny, on the third attempt, began considering Nikita Zhuravel's case. Chechen Imams became victims in the case against their own will and are ignoring the court sessions because they failed to receive instructions on their testimonies, Svetlana Gannushkina*, the head of the "Civic Assistance" Committee*, has explained.

The prosecution of Zhuravel is politically motivated and aimed at intimidating the public, the human rights project "Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial" has stated.

The suffered party has declared the inadmissibility of attacks on religious values, the "Chechnya Today" News Agency has reported.

"This is unacceptable for all Muslims. Of course, it has offended me," Salman Bibulatov, the Imam of the Baisangurovsky District Mosque, has stated.

Anvar Magadaev, the Imam of the mosque located in the dwelling settlement of Beryozka, Visaitovsky District of Grozny, said that burning down the Koran is blasphemy.

Other victims have also stated that Zhuravel's act had insulted Muslims and inflicted moral harm to them, the RIA "Novosti" has noted.

Let us remind you that Nikita Zhuravel has apologized to Muslims.
