Prosecution demands to fine Oleg Orlov
The prosecutor has asked the court to find Oleg Orlov guilty in the case of discrediting the Russian Army and to fine him.
Today, the Golovinsky District Court of Moscow is holding a session to consider the case of Oleg Orlov, accused of discrediting Russian militaries. The prosecutor has asked the court to send Orlov for a psychological examination, but the court refused to do it.
The "Memorial" Centre for the Defence of Human Rights has reported in its Telegram channel that Katerina Tertukhina, an advocate, stated that the criminal prosecution of the human rights defender, Oleg Orlov, is contrary to the Russian Constitution and international treaties.
Bringing such charges against Orlov is discrimination, since supporters of the use of armed forces are freely and even sometimes with the participation of the state expressing their opinions, organizing rallies and other public events, Ms Tertukhina has noted.
Let us remind you that the reason for bringing charges against Oleg Orlov was the Russian translation of his article published in the French "Mediapart" outlet; the translation was posted on November 14, 2022, on the Facebook* social network. The article condemned the Russia's special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine.
*On March 21, 2022, the Tverskoi Court of Moscow banned the activities in Russia of the Meta Company, owning the Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, in connection with extremist activities.
