CE's Human Rights Commissioner met the arrested "Real Azerbaijan" editor

Thomas Hammerberg, Commissioner of the Council of Europe for Human Rights, has met Einullah Fatullaev, founder and editor-in-chief of newspapers "Real Azerbaijan" and "Gyundelik Azerbaijan," kept in custody at the investigatory isolation facility of the Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan. His advocate Aidyn Nazarli has told the "APA" Information Agency about it.

Mr Fatullaev's advocate has also informed that the European human rights activist examined the cell where the journalist is kept and asked about the custody and nutrition conditions, as well as about the presented charges.

"The Commissioner said that this arrest is in the Council of Europe's focus of attention, and the issue will be discussed at the PACE debates on Azerbaijan," Aidyn Nazarli has stated.

Mr Nazarli has also added that he informed his client that he had lodged a petition to the investigation claiming to stop the criminal case under Articles 214.1 (threat of terrorism), 283.2.2 (kindling of national, racial or religious enmity by a person through use of one's service position) and 213.2.2 (tax evasion) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. The investigation has not yet considered the petition.
