Protesters in Makhachkala report power outage

After the protest action in Makhachkala, the power was supplied only for a few hours, residents of Magomed Gadjiev Street have reported. The head of Dagestan has promised that new protests will be suppressed.

On August 9, as a sign of protest, Makhachkala townspeople blocked traffic along Magomed Gadjiev Street. According to their stories, there had been no electricity in their homes for three days, and there is no reaction from authorities. After talking with officials and the police, the townspeople unblocked the traffic, but promised to resume the protest, if the power supply was not restored.

Sergey Melikov, the head of Dagestan, has threatened the protesters.

"They resumed power on August 10 at about 9:00 a.m. for a short time. By lunchtime, the supplied the power again, then turned it off," said Rasul, a local resident.

A woman, the café owner, said she had no electricity. "There are no clients; we are incurring losses," she has stated.

Local residents have also reported that they were promised to resume power supply within 24 hours. If this does not happen, they intend to resume protests.

The problems have systemic nature; and no one deals with them, said Ziyaudin Uvaisov, the head of the "ZhKKH (Housing and Public Utilities) Monitor".

Power engineers are restoring power supply in a number of cities of Dagestan, disrupted due to accidents that happen amid the abnormal heat, the republic's government has informed.
