In Krasnodar, court sends man to penal colony for “disseminating fakes” about Russian army

The Pervomaisky District Court of Krasnodar found Alexander Somryakov guilty of discrediting the Russian Armed Forces and sentenced him to six years of imprisonment. The Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Krasnodar Territorial Court upheld the verdict.

The court found that in April 2022, Alexander Somryakov posted a message on the social media which contradicted official Russian sources about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine. Alexander Somryakov was sentenced to six years of imprisonment under the article on the public dissemination of false information about the use of the Russian Armed Forces. In addition, Alexander Somryakov was deprived for four years of the right to be engaged in activities related to the publication of information on the Internet, the Joint Press Service of the Courts of the Krasnodar Territory reported in its Telegram channel.

An appeal was filed against the verdict, but the Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Krasnodar Territorial Court dismissed the complaint.
