Prisoner files lawsuit against SIZO in Kuban because of HIV infection

A man serving his sentence in Kabardino-Balkaria filed a lawsuit against a penitentiary facility and a SIZO (pre-trial prison) in Novorossiysk, claiming that he contracted HIV there.

Yuri M. claims that he was infected with HIV in the Novorossiysk SIZO, where he was kept during the investigation and trial under the articles on robbery and possession of drugs.

After the verdict had been pronounced, Yuri was transferred to Kabardino-Balkaria, where he learned about his positive HIV status. The man claimed that he became infected because of inadequate conditions of detention, the “Kavkaz.Realii”* reports.
