Zhuravel, citizen of Volgograd, accused of burning Koran, taken to Chechnya

Nikita Zhuravel, arrested for burning down the Koran, has been brought from Volgograd to the SIZO (pre-trial prison) in Grozny. Residents of Chechnya met the paddy wagon with demands to severely punish the Volgograd citizen.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 20, Nikita Zhuravel was detained in Volgograd after recording a video of burning the Koran. During the interrogation, he said that he did it at the direction of Ukrainian special services. The decision to transfer the case to Chechnya is contrary to the law and creates a risk of torture for Zhuravel and a threat to his life, lawyers have noted.

The paddy wagon was accompanied by demands of residents of the republic "to punish Nikita Zhuravel most severely," the "Chechnya Segodnya" outlet has reported.

Let us remind you that on May 23, a video appeared on the Internet, in which Nikita Zhuravel, a Volgograd citizen, apologized to Muslims. On the same day, a rally against the burning of the Koran was held in Grozny, which, according to official sources, was attended by about 60,000 people. The participants of the rally stated that they were employees of educational and budgetary institutions who were ordered to attend the rally by the authorities.

Since the start of the year, Ramzan Kadyrov has reacted angrily at least four times to incidents of burning the Koran. Besides, he has publicly called to execute the Koran burners and promised to pay 5 million roubles for the execution of the burners and the heroes of the video clip, in which a page from the Koran was used to light a fire.
