Residents of Ingushetia and Chechnya share their stories of domestic violence

A twenty-year-old female resident of Nazran shared a story of her escape from domestic violence in the podcast of the “Svoboda (ne) za gorami” (Freedom (not) beyond the mountains) project. Aminat Lorsanova, a native of Chechnya, said that her mother was beating her, justifying herself with permission from Putin and Kadyrov.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on January 20, 2020, Aminat Lorsanova, a 22-year-old native of Chechnya, who left Russia in April 2019, stated that she had been subjected to violence in Grozny by her relatives and a specialist in “expelling genies.” According to Aminat Lorsanova, only her third attempt to escape from “treatment” in Chechnya became successful.

The podcast with the stories of Aminat Lorsanova and Eva, a 20-year-old resident of Ingushetia, is posted on the YouTube channel of the “Svoboda ne za gorami” project.

“Once my mother said that I was a beats, a nonentity. And when I asked why she was mocking me all my life, she answered with laugh: “Because Putin and Kadyrov allow me. I can do what I want with you," Aminat Lorsanova said.

In turn, Eva said that she lives in Nazran, where she returned after her unsuccessful escape.

According to her, the problems began after her mother found out that Eva was using a feminine hygiene product. “I was taken to doctors, and they checked me for virginity on the second day of menstruation. I felt such humiliation ... My relatives and my mother were threatening me with murder, and I began to plan an escape,” Eva shared.

  • Law enforcers' provocations put gays in Dagestan under additional threat

Gays in Dagestan were in danger even before law enforcers held provocations and raids on them; and after the arrest of the gay blogger Matvei Volodin, threats have grown manifold. However, as noted by rights defenders, law enforcers have no real grounds to open cases against gays under the article on extremism.
