Zarema Musaeva's arrest extended for three months

A court in Grozny has extended the arrest of Zarema Musaeva, a figurants in the case of attacking a law enforcer, until August 12 2023.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 1, 2022, Musaeva completely rejected all the charges and confirmed her earlier testimonies she gave in the first days after her abduction. On February 2 this year, the court extended her arrest until May 12. In February, she reported that her eyesight began disappearing at the Chechen SIZO (pre-trial prison), where she is kept. On April 28, her defence stated that the examination of the nail sections in Musaeva's case was accompanied by gross violations. Abubakar Yangulbaev, a lawyer and one of Zarema's sons, said that his mother's health condition had deteriorated significantly while at the SIZO and she needed medical treatment.

The "Team against Torture"** has posted the details of the interrogation of the expert who had issued the conclusion on Musaeva's case. On May 4, the judge tried to find out exactly how the trauma was inflicted on the policeman who had accused Zarema of assault. The indictment states that Musaeva had grabbed the victim by the cheek and, while holding it, inflicted eight abrasions and one wound. But the expert told the court that Zarema did not grab, but only scratched the victim twice with her four fingers.

Human rights defenders suggest that the research part of the expert conclusion was copied from the Internet, as it contains the phrase "to be discussed on the forum."

Besides, the expert claims that wounds and abrasions are the same traumas, which contradicts the professional medical literature, the "Team against Torture"** has emphasizes in its Telegram channel.
