Journalist Idris Yusupov holds solo picket in Makhachkala

Dagestani journalist Idris Yusupov has held a solo picket, during which he demanded to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an arrested editor of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft).

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev consider his criminal case to be political persecution and regularly hold solo pickets in support of him.

Journalists believe that Abdulmumin Gadjiev suffers because the newspaper was voicing “uncomfortable questions” to the authorities and the law enforcement bodies.

According to Idris Yusupov, there were no attempts to interfere with his picket. Policemen only asked the journalist to show his ID and obtained his written explanations about what was happening.

Earlier, on February 20, friends of Abdulmumin Gadjiev pointed out that his case was lost against the background of other news and that such pickets were reminding people of his fate.

Let us remind you that Abdulmumin Gadjiev, Abubakar Rizvanov, the leader of the “Ansar” Charitable Foundation, and Kemal Tambiev have been in custody since June 2019 on the charge of financing terrorism.

On March 23, the court dismissed a motion filed by Kemal Tambiev, who asked the court to recognize his first testimony, obtained under pressure, as inadmissible evidence. On April 6, the court dismissed a similar motion filed by Abubakar Rizvanov. On April 13, the court extended the arrests of the defendants for other three months.
