Rising prices before Eid al-Fitr anger residents of Chechnya
The growth of prices in Chechnya ahead of the Eid al-Fitr has led to a significant increase in people's expenses for the festive table and gifts, local residents have complained. They have felt that the prices of meat, vegetables and fruits had risen sharply.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 10, Ramzan Kadyrov urged sellers in Chechnya not to raise prices before the Eid al-Fitr, and compared the traders who do this with drug dealers. Residents of Chechnya evidence that prices for a number of foodstuffs are rising, despite the Kadyrov's statement.
This year, Zarema, a resident of Achkhoi-Martan, has to prepare for the celebration of Eid al-Fitr (Uraza-Bairam) without helpers. Her mother-in-law passed away six months ago, and her husband perished. Zarema was left alone with three children. "My relatives help, but everyone has financial problems; therefore, you have to rely first of all on yourself," the woman said.
According to her story, the day before, appeals of religious figures appeared in social networks, who asked not to set tables with an abundance of meals. "As far as I know, none of my friends and relatives, no matter how difficult it was, has made use of the advice to limit the number of dishes on the festive table. I tried to make our table no worse than when my mother-in-law was alive," Zarema has explained.
Aina has three children; two daughters are married, and her son left for Norway, where he works as an oiler at sea. According to her story, she had no particular problems with money: her son sends money, and daughters sometimes help. "But the way they shamelessly raise foodstuff prices this year has shocked me," the woman was outraged.
Aina has added that prices rise in Chechnya on the eve of any holiday, including the New Year.
According to Irma Tsakoeva, an entrepreneur, in Russia, producers and sellers define the prices for their goods themselves, based on the production costs, expenses for advertising and logistics. At the same time, sometimes the regulatory bodies receive mass complaints from local residents about unreasonable price growth, she has noted.
