Pickets held by colleagues of Dagestani journalist Gadjiev attract tourists' attention

The solo pickets demanding to stop the criminal case against Gadjiev caused an approving reaction from car drivers and interested the guests of Makhachkala, journalists have informed.

On April 10, Idris Yusupov, a journalist from the "Novoye Delo" outlet, and Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" weekly outlet, held two solo in Makhachkala in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev.

After the pickets held by Yusupov and Magomedov, a policeman wrote down their explanations. At least a dozen passers-by and car drivers also paid attention to the journalists' protests.

Almost all the workers of Makhachkala city utilities, who passed by the picket venue, supported the journalists' demands, Mr Magomedov has noted, adding that there were those among them, who knew in detail what was happening with Gadjiev's criminal case.

According to Mr Yusupov, Khadjimurad Donogo, a well-known Dagestani historian, also came to support the protesters. He has explained that he personally knows Gadjiev and considers him a professional and a good expert in the field of religion.

"I find it my duty to express my position and sometimes I go to these pickets in order to at least support them with my presence," Mr Donogo has stressed.

Let us remind you that Gadjiev, Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the "Ansar" Charitable Fund, and Kemal Tambiev, an activist, have been kept in custody since June 2019 on charges of financing terrorism. On March 23, 2023, at the court session, the court rejected Tambiev's petition demanding to treat his first testimony, obtained under duress, as inadmissible evidence.
