Blogger Alibekov convicted for discrediting Russian army
In Novorossiysk, a court recognized a video posted on the YouTube channel by native of Dagestan Askhabali Alibekov to be discrediting the Russian Armed Forces and sentenced him to a year and two months of imprisonment in a penal colony. That was reported by the human rights project “OVD-Info”* with reference to advocate Marina Dubrovina.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in January, a court denied Askhabali Alibekov a special procedure for considering the criminal case against him, which would provide for an admission of guilt and refusal of a judicial investigation in exchange for a milder punishment. The court considered that Askhabali Alibekov repented insincerely. The convict complained that he was not provided with medical assistance. According to his spouse Patimat, Askhabali Alibekov filed a motion for a special procedure “in order to receive a minimum sentence.” The advocate said that the court’s decision was caused by the refusal of the blogger to testify.
On September 29, 2022, the pre-trial restriction measure for 51-year-old Askhabali Alibekov was changed from written recognizance not to leave the place to detention.
According to the investigators’ version, the blogger posted on his video hosting channel a record containing the information discrediting the Russian Armed Forces. Earlier, Askhabali Alibekov was brought to administrative responsibility for a similar publication.
Let us remind you that law enforcers detained the blogger on September 9, 2022. On November 2, 2022, the human rights project “Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial” recognized Askhabali Alibekov as a political prisoner.
