Human rights defenders claim torture conditions in penal colony for Ingush native Albagachiev

Prisoner Abdul-Malik Albagachiev is being kept under torture conditions in the penal colony of Astrakhan, the “Public Verdict” Foundation* claimed. The native of Ingushetia suffers from intensified epileptic seizures, and doctors do not issue a conclusion necessary for surgery, the human rights defenders emphasize.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on February 21, relatives of Abdul-Malik Albagachiev complained that his health state had deteriorated in the penal colony. Ismail Mankiev, an uncle of Abdul-Malik Albagachiev, claimed that his nephew began to suffer from epilepsy after being tortured.

In August 2018, Abdul-Malik Albagachiev, a native of Ingushetia, was sentenced by a court to nine years of imprisonment. According to the investigators’ version, since January 2015, the man fought in Syria, and after returning to Russia, he stored an improvised grenade.

Abdul-Malik Albagachiev, who suffers from epilepsy, is constantly placed in a punishment cell, and prison doctors do not interfere with that, although a person with such a diagnosis may not be left alone, the human rights defenders emphasize.

The doctors of the medical unit in the penal colony do not send Abdul-Malik Albagachiev to the hospital for surgery, although he has an iron plate in his collarbone, which should have been removed long ago.

Let us remind you that on January 24, 2022, human rights defender Zarema Barakhoeva held a picket in front the building of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Astrakhan Region, during which she announced a violation of Abdul-Malik Albagachiev’s rights. In November 2022, Marzhan Albagachieva, a mother of the convicted man, complained that her son was unreasonably being punished in the penal colony and that law enforcers thus put pressure on him. The woman asked the human rights defenders to protect the rights of her son.
