Volgograd contract soldier’s wife seeks his treatment through court
A spouse of a participant in the special military operation appealed to the Volgograd Garrison Military Court, demanding that her husband be dismissed from service and provided with psychiatric treatment. Military doctors who examined the contract soldier declared him fit for service, while civilian doctors insist that he needs medical treatment.
Alexei, a 46-year-old father of two children, served in Chechnya in 1995-1996. According to his wife Anna, after the military service, her husband suffered from mental disorders: the man claimed that he saw the silhouettes of his comrades who perished in the war, but he did not address doctors for help, despite the exacerbations. During an exacerbation of the disease in 2018, the man attempted suicide.
On June 29, 2022, Alexei signed a three-month contract with the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) and a week later was sent to the Kherson Region. According to his wife, Alexei did not pass the military medical commission.
Anna said that on December 1, 2022, her husband arrived home for a two-week vacation “with an acute mental disorder.” During the fighting, Alexei got a severe concussion, but there is no documentary evidence of that fact. “Alexei began to stutter a lot after that,” the woman noted.
According to Anna, her husband shows aggression: he smashes plates, threatens her with violence, and often demonstrates suicidal intentions.
The woman addressed civil psychiatrists for help. The medical commission recognized the man fit for service with category “B” (with minor restrictions, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”).
“At present, Alexei stays at home. He has a fever, his leg is failing, and he has got problems with his back ... He needs an urgent surgery, otherwise his legs will fail. Medical officers from the hospital said that the hernia does not prevent him from serving,” Anna stated.
In December, Olga Miroedova, the leader of the human rights organization “Spravedlivost” (Justice), appealed to the Prosecutor’s Office, reporting that “the contract soldier was not fit to continue serving.”
