Dagestan women with many children treat mobilization of their husbands as unfair

Two Dagestani residents, the only breadwinners for their families with three children, were sent to participate in the military operation in Ukraine; attempts to challenge their mobilization were unsuccessful, their wives have stated. The law enshrines the right to deferment for men with four children, a lawyer has noted.

The editorial office of the "Caucasian Knot" has received an appeal from a mother of many children from Dagestan. According to her story, on September 22, the military commissariat called her husband and demanded from him to come to the assembly point, otherwise "the police will come to his home."

On September 28, the man was sent to Ukraine. His wife suggests that he "had undergone no training."

The spouses have three children under the age of ten. The woman has faced domestic and moral problems and challenges the sending of her husband to the military operation, as she is sure that men with three minor children are not subject to mobilization. Besides, he is the only breadwinner in the family.

Another Dagestani woman also treats her husband's mobilization as illegal. There are three children in the family, the eldest of whom is 11 years old; the family has the status of a large family, and the husband is the only breadwinner in the family.

The grounds for deferment from mobilization are spelled out in the law, among them – the presence of four or more children, said Artyom Mugunyants, a leading lawyer for working with recruits at the "Antiprizyv" (Anti-Draft) Centre. The law says nothing about men with three children, he has stressed.

On October 13, Andrei Kartapolov, the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defence, explained that a decision had been made to postpone mobilization for the fathers who have three dependent children under 16 years old. According to his story, this is stated in documents that have not yet been published anywhere. "This is a gesture of goodwill from the Ministry of Defence. It was made as a response to a public request and involves easing the requirements for postponing mobilization," the "Parlamentskaya Gazeta" outlet has quoted him as saying.
