Kadyrov treats return of POWs as achievement of Chechen MP

A group of prisoners of war (POWs), including an officer from Kalmykia, has returned home thanks to the competent negotiating work performed by Shamsail Saraliev, a Russian State Duma MP from Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov has proudly stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 5, the head of Chechnya expressed his satisfaction over the return of 107 Russian POWs from Ukraine and stated that new lists for exchange had been drawn up.

On September 22, Kadyrov expressed his strong dissatisfaction with the exchange of POWs, organized by the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) and FSB (Federal Security Service). According to Kadyrov, that exchange of POWs was conducted under the Ukrainian terms.

On December 1, the MoD announced the return of 50 Russian POWs from captivity.

Kadyrov has stressed the merits in the negotiations of the MP Shamsail Saraliev and praised the MP's "competent negotiation work" in returning the POWs to their families.

The head of Chechnya uses his involvement in the POWs' exchange for his publicity, analysts believe. The exchange would have taken place without the participation of Kadyrov and Saraliev, Dmitry Oreshkin, a political analyst, has noted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that Kadyrov is regularly reporting about sending volunteers to Ukraine. However, there are reports that mobilization and enrolment in law enforcement bodies take place under authorities' pressure.
