Woman from Cherkessk criticizes court marshals for inaction

Galimat Okhtova from Cherkessk has treated the inaction of court marshals as the reason that two years after the verdict was passed on Mariam Karaeva, who had stolen the maternity capital from her daughter, the money has not yet been returned. She has asked Tatiana Moskalkova, the Russian Ombudsperson, to intervene in the situation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 29, 2021, the Supreme Court (SC) of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR) upheld the sentence to Mariam Karaeva, who was sentenced to 3.5 years of conditional imprisonment within the case of embezzling the maternity capital from Anzhelina Karova. According to the verdict, Karaeva must not only return the amount of the capital, but also pay 100,000 roubles as compensation of moral harm. However, the convict had no money, and two of her accomplices escaped responsibility thanks to their links in KChR's law enforcement bodies, Galimat Okhtova, Anzhelina's mother, asserts. She had to take out a loan in order to take her grandson to Moscow for medical treatment.

Galimat Okhtova has claimed that within two years after sentencing Karaeva, her daughter failed to receive her money. Meantime, "all the complaints and appeals sent to supervisory authorities remain unanswered, or they just send empty replies," she said, adding that her attempts to get an appointment with the republic's prosecutor were also unsuccessful.
