First hearing outside Chechnya in case against Magamadov and Isaev scheduled

On October 25, in Pyatigorsk, a court will consider a complaint in a case against Salekh Magamadov and Ismail Isaev brothers, convicted in Chechnya for aiding and abetting a militant. The court hearing will be the first to take place outside of Chechnya, the “NC (Northern Caucasus) SOS” Crisis Group points out.

“The court hearing will be the first in the brothers’ case, which will take place outside of Chechnya. This means that now there is a chance that their case can be reviewed,” the “NC SOS” Crisis Group emphasizes in its Telegram channel.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the criminal case against Salekh Magamadov and Ismail Isaev brothers has been under consideration since October 12, 2021. Advocates sought to transfer the brothers’ case to another region, but the court refused them. In December 2021, the brothers went on a hunger strike with the same demand. On February 22, in Chechnya, a court sentenced Salekh Magamadov to eight years and Ismail Isaev to six years of imprisonment. On May 11, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya refused to commute the punishment for Salekh Magamadov and Ismail Isaev brothers.

Salekh Magamadov and Ismail Isaev were accused of aiding and abetting a militant from a grouping led by Aslan Byutukaev. According to the investigators’ version, brothers gave the militant bread, juice, tea, and chocolate. In March 2021, the brothers complained about beatings and torture after their detentions.

Let us remind you that since July 15, the advocates have been denied a visit to Salekh Magamadov at the “Vladimirsky Central” prison: the administration claimed that he was not in prison. On August 11, an advocate was allowed to visit Salekh Magamadov, but their conversation was monitored by a warder.

On July 7, the “NC SOS” Crisis Group reported that Ismail Isaev was transferred to a penal colony in Kuban, and on July 21, it became known that he was placed to a punishment cell for 15 days.
