Resident of Adygea fined for discrediting army

The court has imposed a fine of 30,000 roubles on Onar Djafarov, a resident of Adygea, finding him guilty of discrediting Russian militaries after he had damaged a banner.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 28, district courts of Krasnodar received four administrative cases on discrediting the Russian military against Onar Djafarov.

The Leninsky District Court of Krasnodar has fined Onar Djafarov, a resident of Adygea, by 30,000 roubles. The court has treated the fact that Djafarov made an inscription on the banner in support of the special operation in Ukraine as discrediting the Russian Armed Forces, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project reported on September 20.

The court session was held without the defendant's participation, the report says.

The Djafarov's case initiated under Part 1, Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (public actions aimed at discrediting the use of armed forces) arrived in the court on August 26, the decision on the case was made on September 19; it follows from the case card placed on the website of the Leninsky District Court of Krasnodar.

Part 1, Article 20.3.3, of the above Code provides for a fine from 30,000 to 50,000 roubles for citizens. The main danger of the new article is that a repeated violation within a year implies criminal prosecution, Mikhail Benyash, a Krasnodar lawyer, explained in March this year.

*The project has been included by the Russian Ministry of Justice into the register of foreign media that act as foreign agents.
