Defence achieves lifting of regime toughening for Dagestani Shamil Nurmagomedov
The court sent for review the decision to transfer Shamil Nurmagomedov, a resident of Dagestan convicted of financing terrorism, from a colony to prison. The long stay in the cell has told negatively on his health, his advocate has stated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 28, 2021, Shamil Nurmagomedov's custody in colony was toughened. His father suggested that this was caused by his son's making public information about prisoners' hunger strike. He said that his son has sewn up his mouth and, together with 24 inmates went on a dry hunger strike in the colony located in the Smolensk Region, protesting against bullying.
In April 2021, in the above colony, ten prisoners, including natives of Dagestan, had their mouths sewn up in protest against beatings, humiliation, religion-based discrimination and imposition of unjustified punishments.
Evgeny Gorbachov, an advocate, has noted that Nurmagomedov had embarked on the path of correction; he has no violations the colony internal regulations for a long time; he is respectfully treating the colony staff, and is not going to violate the regime in the future.
"Now he is under the prophylactic medical treatment ... His condition is depressed; the stress he suffered has affected his psyche," the advocate has explained.
