Three Saakashvili supporters released on bail
A court in Tbilisi has released on bail three oppositionists detained during a rally in support of ex-President of Georgia Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili. One of them said he was not going to pay the bail.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the activists, Besik Tamliani, Kakhaber Kupreishvili, Tsotne Soseliya and Zurab Budagashvili were detained in July 2019. According to the police, they were involved in a brawl with law enforcers. The detainees refused to plead guilty. In January 2020, Soseliya and Kupreishvili went on a hunger strike.
On March 6, 2020, the court sentenced Kupreishvili, Soseliya and Budagashvili to fines and conditional imprisonment for participating in clashes with policemen outside the building of the Georgian Parliament in June 2019. Budagashvili stated that he was innocent, but confessed in order to be released from arrest. Besik Tamliani, who was detained along with the convicted activists, insisted on his innocence.
The court has released Tamliani, Siukaev and Gikoshvili, detained after an action in support of Saakashvili, on bail of 5000 laris each, the "News-Georgia" has reported.
Tamliani, Siukaev and Gikoshvili took part in the action on November 29, 2021, where clashes broke out with policemen, and where the latter used pepper spray against protesters.
