Rights defenders call to help a native of Chechnya in Romania

Amina Gerikhanova, a native of Chechnya, who was detained at the Romanian border, will not be able to leave the country after being released from custody, since the issue of her extradition to Russia has not been resolved, the "Vayfond" human rights association has stated. Human rights defenders call on volunteers to help find housing for Gerikhanova in Romania.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 6, Abdul-Malik, a Chechen oppositional blogger and activist, said that in front of the Romanian consulate in Edinburgh, members of the Chechen Diaspora called on the EU authorities not to extradite Amina Gerikhanova to Russia, who was wanted by the Interpol at Russia's request.

Amina Gerikhanova said she expects to be released on September 7, because authorities cannot keep her in custody for more than 180 days, the "Vayfond", a Chechen human rights association based in Sweden, stated late on August 16, stressing that the date of Gerikhanova's release "is not yet completely exact."

Amina Gerikhanova will not be able to leave Romania, as the authorities still want her extradition to Russia, says the message posted on the Telegram channel of the "Vayfond".

The "Vayfond" has urged volunteers to help human rights defenders find housing for Gerikhanova.
