Court refuses to transfer Zarema Musaeva's case to another region

The judge has dismissed the advocate's petition to change the territorial jurisdiction of the case of Zarema Musaeva, who is accused of a fraud and assault on a law enforcer.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on July 5, in Grozny, a court prolonged until September 12 the arrest of Zarema Musaeva, accused of fraud and an attack on a law enforcer. The health state of Zarema Musaeva, who suffers from diabetes, is getting worse in detention, states her son Abubakar Yangulbaev.

"Today (August 16) a preliminary hearing on the criminal case against my mother (Zarema Musaeva) was held," Abubakar Yangulbaev wrote on his Telegram channel.

At the session at the Leninsky District Court, the advocates filed a petition asking to change the territorial jurisdiction: they want to transfer the case to any other region of Russia, because they doubt the objectivity and impartiality of judges in Chechnya, says a message posted in the Telegram channel "Team against Torture"*.

However, Judge Ediev, Musa Sultanovich, has rejected the advocates' motion, the message says.

The advocates have also asked the court to return the case to the prosecutor, citing violations committed during drafting the indictment, but this appeal was also dismissed, human rights defenders have added.

*The "Team against Torture" (formerly the "Committee against Torture") was created by lawyers who earlier worked for the "Committee against Torture", which was entered into the register of foreign agents.
