Wheelchair invalid fined in Kuban for protest against dump
The court has imposed a fine of a thousand roubles on Yuri Trubachov, a Category I disabled person, who for several hours blocked the road to the landfill in the Poltavskaya rural settlement with a demand to close the dump.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Yuri Trubachov, 65, a wheelchair invalid, is regularly staging protests against the landfill in Poltavskaya. On May 15, he held a solo picket near the administration of the Krasnoarmeisky District of the Krasnodar Territory (also known as Kuban by the name of the main river). Later, Trubachov said that he and his neighbours, who wouldn't agree to have a dump nearby, are persecuted by officials and law enforcers.
On August 12, Yuri Trubachov blocked the passage for garbage trucks on the bridge leading to the landfill. The action lasted for about three hours, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* outlet reports.
The policemen and "Rosgvardiya" (Russian National Guard) fighters, who arrived at the venue, failed to persuade Trubachov to leave. As a result, a protocol was drawn up against the disabled person for creating obstacles to traffic on the roadway, and the court fined him by a thousand roubles, the report says.
In parallel with the Trubachov's action, a series of solo pickets was held in the settlement: residents came out with posters reading "No to dump in Poltavskaya!" and "Stop the garbage genocide!"
"The Yuri Trubachov's action is a despair gesture. Since November (of 2021), we have been writing to all instances; we have a total of five volumes of answers, but nothing has changed," said Natalia Garyaeva, the chair of the public council for the closure of the Poltavskaya garbage landfill.
*The outlet was put by the Russian Ministry of Justice into the register of foreign media outlets acting as foreign agents.
