Meliya refutes information about Saakashvili's quitting UNM
The advocate's statement about Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili's departure from the "United National Movement" (UNM) Party that he founded is untrue and was voiced out as part of the defence's strategy, Nika Meliya, the party chairman, has suggested.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 30, Valery Gelbakhiani, an advocate, said that his client, Mikhail Saakashvili, had decided to leave the Georgian politics and quit the UNM. According to the advocate, Saakashvili decided to take care of his health.
In his turn, Nika Meliya, the UNM Chairman, claims that Saakashvili's intention to quit the UNM is not true.
"It's not like that. The defence has its own strategy – these are advocates, people. Then, it turns out that during the whole many-month-long communication process, we lied to each other: myself to Misha (Saakashvili), or Misha to me? This is the defence's strategy. […] Lawyers have their own work, and they do it well, because they are professionals there; but as for Mikhail Saakashvili and the UNM, of which Saakashvili is the founder and an integral part thereof," the SOVA outlet quotes Mr Meliya as saying.
