Saakashvili’s relatives succeed in involving forensic experts from United States to his case
Forensic medical specialists from the United States will examine the general health state of former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, carry out a psychiatric examination and make their legal opinion, advocate Shalva Khachapuridze reports.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that supporters of former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili demanded to transfer him to a foreign clinic for treatment after on April 27, doctors announced that the politician’s health was deteriorating. On May 12, Mikhail Saakashvili was transferred from the Rustavi prison for medical examination to the “Vivamed” clinic in Tbilisi. On May 14, the Georgian authorities ruled out the transfer of Mikhail Saakashvili for medical treatment abroad.
Relatives of Mikhail Saakashvili succeeded in seeking forensic medical specialists from the United States joining the work on the former Georgian president’s case. The US medical specialists will conduct a forensic and psychiatric examination. The US specialists will arrive in Georgia in the coming days, reports Shalva Khachapuridze, an advocate of Mikhail Saakashvili, as quoted by the newspaper “Batumilebi” on its website.
The US specialists will also examine the Mikhail Saakashvili’s general health state and prepare their legal opinion. Meanwhile, their work will be coordinated by advocate Shalva Khachapuridze, who joined the case of Mikhail Saakashvili at the request of his relatives. The defender emphasizes that he is currently working on a postponement of the sentence of the former Georgian president, the “Georgia Online” reports.
