Employees of rehabilitation centre in Azerbaijan arrested in a case on torture
A court placed under arrest five employees of a drug and alcohol addiction treatment centre located in the Absheron District of Azerbaijan after one of the patients died. According to the investigators’ version, the victim was kept by force at the centre and subjected to torture there.
The law enforcement bodies arrested five employees of the “New Life” rehabilitation centre in the village of Novkhany in the Apsheron District of Azerbaijan for those who want to get rid of drug and alcohol addiction. Orudjali Aligejdarov, the head of the rehabilitation centre, and four of his subordinates have been taken into custody, the “Meydan.tv” reported last night on its website.
The arrested persons have been charged under articles of torture and illegal imprisonment.
Three persons – Fuad Gasanov, Kamran Aliev, and Djakhangir Aliev – were recognized as victims in the criminal case, and one more person was recognized as a legal successor of a victim. According to the investigators’ version, the mentioned people were tortured in the rehabilitation centre.
Gusein Mamedov died in a hospital on September 5, 2021. Earlier, according to the investigators’ version, he voluntarily came to the rehabilitation centre, but on September 4, 2021, he tried to escape. Staff of the rehabilitation centre caught him, tied him up, and beat him. On September 5, 2021, the Gusein Mamedov’s condition worsened, he was urgently taken to the hospital, but doctors could not save his life, the online publication “24saat.org” reported.
